Week three: comics and graphic novels

Do you use in your classroom?

Yes, but you must choose a good support without violence, bad word and strange situation (For example: a dad fall in love of his daughter) but with values, a good story, good pictures and a nice morality. With these supports you can study different things: reading, listening, writing, speaking, history, science, geography, etc.

How use it in your classroom?

For example you can check if your students have really read the story you ask some questions about the text and not the pictures (in the picture you find some things that don’t appeared in the text or the opposite some things in the text don’t appeared in the picture). Or you give a star of story and, by group; the pupils must invented the suite of this story.  (They must use their imagination).

Witch comics and graphic novel you choose?

A story with the popular culture to keep the attention and motivation of the children but not all the time. And like I read in the first question, not violence or just a little not bad word and strange situation. A story for boys and girls.

And after?

You can propose to make their comics or graphic novels and publish it in the diary of the school. This is a very good activity to make with children because they keep a track they had make and, in the future, they remember “oh yes, I make it in my primary school, there was so great”.
